Sports Premium

With our PE funding at Eton Park Junior: A de Ferrers Trust Academy, we are aiming to provide our children with experiences that they may not have had before through taster sessions of different sports including Bangra dancing,Boccia and Archery.  We aim to provide the children at these sessions with links to out of school clubs within the area where they can continue their skills and enjoy their new passion.

We are continuing our strong links with Burton Albion Football Club and East Staffordshire Borough Council to not only provide clubs to the children at lunchtimes and after school, but to run lessons alongside our teachers at various points throughout the year to improve their skills and knowledge of sports that are constantly changing.

Additionally, we would also like to inspire more competition between the children through internal and external school competitions. We will be using some of our funding on transport to ensure that the children can access these opportunities. As a result of healthy competition situations, it is hoped that children will use their skills of working together in our Success for All lessons, and apply it to other areas of the curriculum to improve team work skills. We also believe that it is important that the children improve their core body skills and strengthen their understanding of physical education and what it means to them, which will be a focus through many of our PE lessons.

We continue to  train year 6 pupils as Young Leaders to run clubs for the children at lunchtime which inspires competition with themselves and other children.

Since the Government PE funding has come in to action, from the legacy of the 2012 London Olympics, PE at Eton Park Junior has greatly improved. After school club participation has risen from 22% to 67% and we are hoping to raise this to further over the coming years.

In order to achieve these targets, we work closely with the East Staffordshire Schools Sports Partnership to provide competition and club opportunities for the children.  Staff are also regularly kept up to date and trained through this partnership and we look forward to remaining with this partnership in the future.

Over the last few years, since the introduction of the Sports Premium money we have really raised the profile of the P.E. and sports within the school.  During the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15, we achieved the Bronze School Games Award and in the year 2015/16 we achieved the Silver Award.  We are now confident that we will be able to achieve the Gold Award this year.
